Commission Project: Bishop House
Some commissions feel less like individual paintings and more like building a visual atmosphere. That’s what this project became.
The Bishop House commission in Scottsdale, Arizona was designed as a three-piece collection — each painting carrying its own identity while still speaking the same language. The goal wasn’t simply to “match a room.” It was to create work that belonged to the space emotionally, structurally, and energetically.
The project is part of the new luxury mixed-use development — a contemporary residential concept centered around modern desert architecture, walkability, and elevated design. The architecture immediately stood out to me.
Concrete. Glass. Zinc. Warm light. Sharp lines softened by desert tones.
That balance between refinement and rawness became the foundation for the paintings.
Painting One: Agave Americana
Agave Americana, 36” x 48”, Acrylic on Canvas, focused heavily on motion and detail. Loose directional brushwork pushed across rigid geometric forms, almost like heat waves moving through the desert. I wanted the painting to feel alive without becoming chaotic — controlled energy.
The textures became important early. Thick palette knife movement contrasted against smooth atmospheric transitions, creating a tension between the permanence of the Agave and the erosion of the desert.

Painting Two: Beast
Beast, 72” x 60”, is the anchor of the series. A bold composition — strong contrast, heavy texture, and domination of the canvas by sheer size.
This piece focused on presence. It needed enough visual weight to ground the collection while still allowing all the three paintings to function as one unified experience. The sweeping curves of the horns command attention, creating a bold silhouette that feels both timeless and untamed. Set against a minimalist backdrop, the piece allows texture, light, and form to take center stage.

Painting Three: Sonoran Sunset
Sonoran Sunset, 72” x 36”, is a bold composition — strong contrast, heavy texture, and a focus on light and atmosphere.
Towering saguaro cacti stand silhouetted against the sky, their forms both monumental and quiet, rooted in a landscape that feels timeless. The distant mountains dissolve into haze while the foreground holds onto the last warmth of the sun, creating depth.
